Activities Lead to Successful Matches
General match activities that range from at least twice a month to every week can greatly impact the life of a child. Through consistent match contact,, a Big can introduce a Little to experiences they would not otherwise have. Focusing on “fun” activities early in the relationship can lead to more “thought-provoking” activities later.
When a Little sees the Big’s interest in sharing fun, he/she interprets it as a sign that the Big cares about him/her, leading to many Little Moments that create Big Magic. Giving a Little a voice and choice in deciding on activities is also critical. It helps a Little develop decision making and negotiation skills.
It is sometimes difficult for matches to come up with ideas. Creating an activity “idea file” or “magic box” together can help. Match Support Professionals are always available to help lend resources and ideas! Here are a few ideas to start with.
