EnROLL A Little

Big Brothers Big Sisters is ready to match your child with another positive, adult role model to help them ignite their own potential.

We take the phrase “it takes a village” seriously. Children who enroll in Big Brothers Big Sisters benefit from another consistent adult who can be a friend, role model and guide who clear the path for a child's bright future.

Our data show that Littles in Washington County are more likely to succeed in school, say no to drugs and alcohol and build healthier relationships with families and peers. Mentoring improves self-confidence, self-esteem, and competence, making our community better forever.

Safety from the Start

Your child's safety is extremely important to us. Big Brothers Big Sisters conducts a thorough background check on every volunteer in our program, and every relationship is closely monitored and supported by a professionally trained match specialist. We support our youth and their families with all community resources and trainings, regularly check in with parents/guardians, the youth, and the volunteer mentors.

A man and a child enjoy a playful snowball fight in a snowy field. They are smiling, wearing winter clothes, with mountains in the sunny background.
A smiling young boy poses at a skate park. The boy holds a skateboard. Graffiti decorates the ramps behind him. He appears happy and relaxed.
A child at a zoo watch penguins through glass. The child, sitting, touches the glass as she watches. The scene feels joyful.

What are My Child’s Options?

Community-Based Mentoring

Community-Based Mentoring is the organization’s flagship program. This program matches youth ages 6 to 17, who live or attend school in Washington County, with volunteer mentors who are at least 16 years old or older. Spending one-to-one time in the local community is primarily how these relationships develop. Each match is unique and creates a schedule that works for them. During outings, Bigs and Littles do everyday activities that provide children with the opportunity to expand their skills and discover a world of possibilities for their life. Mentors can be individuals, couples, or families in this program.

Site-Based Mentoring

In our School-Based Mentoring Program, students ages 6 to 14 meet with volunteer mentors weekly for about an hour during or after the school day at one of our partner elementary or middle school locations. Through the support of their mentors, children develop positive attitudes toward school, achieve higher grades, become more confident, and improve relationships with adults and peers. Mentoring matches participate in a variety of activities, such as reading together, visiting the school library, working on homework, arts and crafts, playing in the gym, or playing on the playground.
