Our Programs

‍Matches meet at least twice a month, usually during the evenings or weekends at the convenience of both parties. Volunteers coordinate match times and activities directly with the parent.  ‍ ‍

Matches develop their friendships through various activities they enjoy such as taking a walk, attending sporting events, visiting the library or partaking in a favorite hobby, etc. The possibilities are limitless and flexible.

For this mentoring option, you must be at least 16 years old, have a driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and auto insurance. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one year as a mentor. Mentors can volunteer as individuals, a couple or family in this option. Volunteers must also work, live or attend school in Washington County, WI!

Site-Based Mentoring

Sometimes the best place to help a child realize their potential is at school. Kids enjoy having their Bigs meet with them during their lunch period & recess or another designated period that works best in the child’s school day. Matches meet weekly only during the school year, at the child’s school in a space such as the library or a classroom. Some site-based matches may meet immediately after school ends at a designed site, such as the Boys and Girls Club or at BBBS’ Mentor Zone.

High school aged mentors or adults with availability during the day during the school year are best suited for this volunteer opportunity! You have a consistent day and time each week you meet with your mentee at their school!  Only individuals may mentor in this option and are asked to commit to at least one academic school year.

BEYOND SCHOOL WALLS (BSW)

…is the official workplace mentoring program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

“Littles” (high schoolers 15-18 years old) are engaged in one-to-one mentoring relationships with a “Big” (one adult professional) in a workplace setting or designated mentoring site.

Match meetings occur monthly during the school year, typically at the business partner location with the youth being transported to the designated location.

The Big and Little participate in group educational programming focused on workforce development topics, including career exploration, professional skill development, and teambuilding activities.

Matches explore specific career interests together one-to-one after the group session and shadow the business mentor growing valuable workplace skills and knowledge to help aid in career exploration, knowledge, and confidence.

Matches participate in a cohort model with classmates culminating in a “graduation” after each year or matches may remain together for multiple years in the program.
